The focus
of the Campus Recreation
Program is generating wholesome
recreational outlets for leisure pursuits, whether competitive or non
competitive, active or passive. This focus is achieved through effective
leadership in the delivery of adequate leisure services and facilities.
The current trend in campus recreation is to give the modern-day
student
free access to a wide variety of activities which allow stress reduction,
enjoyment, organization and socialization with ones peers.
SUPPORTING AREA POSSIBLE COURSES
Courses relating to personnel management, as well as CPR, aquatics
management, physiology of exercise, recreation administration, revenue
resource management, sport management, aerobics, athletic training,
first aid, and facility management programs will all be useful as you
apply for positions in the recreational field.
THESIS
An option exists for students to earn a Master's Degree without a thesis
by taking additional coursework and passing a comprehensive exam in
their final semester. Alternatively, students may write a thesis on
a topic of their choice with the support and approval of their graduate
committee. Students are encouraged to pursue the thesis option as this
gives them an opportunity to have hands-on experience with a research
topic, to learn in-depth about their thesis topic and to contribute
to the professional literature through publishing their results. If
there is any intention to continue their education at the doctoral
level,
a thesis is strongly recommended.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Employment for students in Campus Recreation comes through student employment
programs, graduate assistants, or intern opportunities. Upon graduation,
professionals often find a vast array of jobs available in a variety of offerings
in campus recreational sports programs, fitness centers, corporate programs,
and parks and municipal recreational centers.
The University of Florida Division
of Recreational Sports (campus intramural program) offers practical
opportunities for practicum’s, internships and possible part
time employment in various aspects of campus recreation.
