Fellowships
Fellowships provided by the college are competitive and are used to recruit the top doctoral students to UF CHHP.
Jane Adams Edmonds Endowed Ph.D. Fellowship
Jane Adams Edmonds graduated from the University of Florida with a Master's degree in physical education in 1958. Over the years, she has traveled the world with her husband, Maj. Gen. Maurice (Maury) Edmonds. In addition to being an extensive traveler, Jane is a devoted mother to two sons, Neal and Mark. Maury presented the scholarship to his wife saying, " with love from your family in recognition to your faithful devotion to them and your love for the University. " Maury also received his B.S. in physical education and health in 1953 from UF and a subsequent M.S. in counseling from Shippensburg State College. Maury is a UF Distinguished Alumni. Jane and Maury Edmonds now live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., where they are enjoying their retirement and their grandchildren.
The Jane Adams Edmonds Ph.D. Fellowship is a one year award for an incoming Ph.D. student into the Department of Applied Physiology & Kinesiology. Potential candidates for the fellowship must be nominated by a Department faculty member. The nominated candidate will be required to provide a (a) letter of intent and (b) two letters of recommendation by Jan. 30 to the departmental office. A selection committee formed by the Department Chair will determine the recipient. Selection criteria include:

Charles W. LaPradd Endowed Ph.D. Fellowship
Charles W. LaPradd, a 1953 graduate of the College in physical education, was captain of the UF football team in 1952 and is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame, UF Athletics Hall of Fame and was named a University of Florida Distinguished Alumni. Dr. LaPradd went on to receive both his M.S. in secondary school administration and his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Florida State University. As a member of the President's Council and Gator Boosters, Dr. LaPradd continues to give of himself to the University of Florida and the College. He served as President of St. Johns River Community College from 1965 until 1972. In 1972, he retired from academic life and established a beer distributorship that still bears his name. Dr. LaPradd is retired and currently owns and manages a ranch north of Gainesville.

Dr. Norma M. Leavitt Ph.D. Fellowship
Dr. Norma M. Leavitt was on the faculty of the College for 28 years prior to her retirement in 1981. She first came to Gainesville in 1953 to chair the Department of Required Physical Education for Women, a position she held until 1962 when she moved to the Department of Professional Curriculum. Dr. Leavitt was a master teacher who accepted nothing but the best from her students. Her goal was to create highly competent professionals.
