Community Health Education
Community based health educators work for local, state, and federal government agencies, and voluntary and private health organizations. The community health educator works with mass media, plans and conducts workshops and clinics, develops educational programs for specific groups and acts as a health resource to individuals and organizations. Population groups that are usually encountered in Community Health Education include people of lower socioeconomic status, older adult populations, and school-aged adolescents and teenagers. Some examples of interest areas of Community Health Educators include teenage pregnancy prevention, prevention of STD transmission, alcohol and drug education to prevent substance abuse, and prenatal health education. Also, because many non-profit organizations depend heavily on funds from various state and federal grants, Community Health Educators may also be exposed to and manage grant-writing and fund-raising projects.
