Frequently Asked Questions
What is Universal Tracking?
Universal Tracking (UT) is the University of Florida academic monitoring system that provides students with a recommended semester-by-semester plan for each major to guide them toward graduation. To view this plan visit your college’s section in the Undergraduate Catalog.
How do I have a hold removed?
There are many holds a student can have placed on their record. Depending on what hold it is determines the office who has the authority to remove it. An academic hold can be placed on your record by your College or the University Registrar. Holds placed by your college are usually for low GPA, deficit points, or improper course selections. The Office of the Registrar will place holds on a students record for being off track for low GPA and course selection. Both types of holds can be removed by an academic advisor within your College.
What should I concentrate on in my first 60 hours?
For your first two years one will concentrate on fulfilling
general education requirements and universal tracking. General education courses
include Composition (3), Humanities, (9), Social Behavioral Sciences (9), Math
(6), Physical and Biological Sciences (9). In addition to General Education, one
should make sure they complete the International Diversity requirement of 6
credits. This can be combined with any Humanities or Social Behavioral Science.
Courses that are part of your college tracking should also be complete by the
60-hour mark. Finally, writing and math requirements should be complete.
What if I get a grade lower than a “C” in my writing
and math classes?
Students must earn a grade of C or higher in courses taken to fulfill the Writing and Math Requirement; such courses cannot be taken S-U.
How do I take classes back home during the summer?
First, you will need to consult with a HHP Academic Advisor regarding the
appropriate courses to take. Second, you will need to log on to http://www.facts.org
and complete a transient student request. A College advisor will review your
request electronically upon which time they will either approve or deny your
request. Once the form has been acted on by the advisor, it will be sent
electronically to the Office of the Registrar for approval. Once approval has been obtained,
the form will be sent electronically to the school requested by the student
(e.g. Santa Fe Community College).
Remember to send all transcripts back to the University of Florida once
the classes are complete.
How many drops do I have?
How do I drop a class?
You will need to fill out the Course Schedule Adjustment form and get
an advisor’s and associate dean’s signature. You will then need to submit
the form to the Office of the Registrar by the posted deadline. The
Registrar’s office will OFFICIALLY drop you from the class.
I have no drops left, what should I do?
If you need to drop from a course and have used all your
drops you may petition the college for an extra drop. You must fill out the
appropriate paperwork and be interviewed regarding your circumstances. There
must be extenuating circumstances in order to be granted an extra drop.
Paperwork can be picked up in the Office of Student Affairs.
How do I drop a class I took in a previous semester?
You will need to fill out a Senate Petition packet and have
it signed by an HHP interviewing officer. Once the forms are complete you will
need to submit them to the Office of the Registrar. Petition meetings are
usually held every Tuesday.
Where can I find out about medical school and other
allied health professions?
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Office of Health
& Legal Professions have trained advisors to help with the admission process
of medical school and other allied health fields.
How do I withdraw medically from the semester?

for information on this process.
Can a student “walk” or graduate before their actual
graduation date?
No, students in HHP
are not permitted to “walk” early.
Can a student do an internship before they complete
their required academic coursework?
The required internship will only be approved after all
academic coursework is complete.
What are the requirements to graduate summa cum laude,
magna cum laude and cum laude?
To graduate summa cum laude, a student must have a 3.7
upper division GPA and complete a senior project (a thesis, research project, or
some other body of creative work). To
graduate magna cum laude, a 3.7 upper division GPA is required along with a
senior project. The appropriate
departmental or college faculty committee decides whether a project warrants a
summa cum laude or magna cum laude. To
graduate cum laude, the student must earn a 3.4 upper division GPA; no senior
project is required.
What is the 4:1 program; when should a student apply?
The 4:1 or combined degree program allows a student to have
12-credit hours count toward both a Masters Degree and a Bachelors Degree;
therefore completing the higher-level degree in less time.
Students should contact their academic advisor during the second semester
of their sophomore year or first semester of their junior year for information
regarding which courses count for double credit.
Students should apply sometime during the junior year.
In order to be approved for the 4:1 program, a student must have a
minimum 3.2 overall GPA and a combined score of at least 1100 on the verbal and
quantitative sections of the graduate record examination (GRE).
In addition, there are specific departmental requirements.
Where can a student get information about scholarships?
There are several scholarships available through the
College of Health and Human Performance. You
can get an application in the Office of Student Affairs, room 203 in the Florida
Gym. Applications are taken during
the Fall semester and are awarded during the Spring semester. The deadline for
applications is posted on the College website. You can also contact University
of Florida Financial Services for scholarship, loan, work-study and grant
information.
What opportunities are there to study abroad?
The University of Florida and the College of Health and Human Performance encourage study abroad and gaining academic credits through exchange programs. It’s best to inquire about study abroad and exchange programs before your junior year. Most exchange program opportunities are departmentally specific. Contact one of the advisors in the Office of Student Affairs for more information. Students can also get information regarding study abroad from the University of Florida International Center (UFIC). For both study abroad and study through an exchange program, students will need to complete their paperwork through the UFIC.
