The Tourism Development Council guides decisions about tourism development in Alachua County and then advises the County Commission. The County Commission appoints nine board members (as per state statute) for Alachua County – three hoteliers, three elected officials and three citizens at large. Dr. Lori Pennington-Gray, an assistant professor in the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management serves on the board in a citizen at large capacity. Dr. Pennington-Gray has served on the board for four years and has recently been appointed for another four year term. Currently the council is working on numerous projects to help improve tourist development for the county. There are also three grant programs, which were developed by the council to stimulate tourist development.
