The Athletic Training Education Program |

|---|---|
The Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Florida provides the community and local school districts with student and certified athletic trainers (allied health care professionals known as ATC’s). Athletic Trainers enhance the quality of care of athletes and those who engage in physical activity. This includes prevention, assessment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Our certified athletic training graduate students and undergraduate student athletic trainers provide care for approximately 350 athletic teams and over 5,000 athletes each year in the North Central Florida region. This includes 14 high schools in 4 counties (Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist) and one community college (Santa Fe Community College). In addition to these school districts, our students care for the Recreational Sports program for the University of Florida, which is one of the biggest in the country. During 2003-2004 school year alone our students provided 45,000 hours of service to their respective schools. Program Contact: Geoffrey Dover University of Florida |
The University of Florida Athletic Training Education Program has been providing this service for the past two decades and provides the school districts with the services of certified athletic trainers for a fraction of the cost of a full time athletic trainer, physical therapist, or team physician. On top of the coverage of in season athletics, our students along with the staff at Shands at Hampton Oaks provide preseason physicals to ensure the safe participation student athletes for the sports they love to play.
