Something to Talk About!In addition to teaching and research, the College of Health and Human Performance faculty and staff are involved in a number of programs and services that benefit our community. During their undergraduate and graduate research students learn how to apply what they have learned through developing and conducting programs that address the needs of individuals and our society. The college offers numerous community centered programs, all of which aim to fulfill our mission to "provide recognized programs of excellence in teaching, research, and service that focus on assisting individuals, families and communities to promote health and prevent disease while enhancing quality of life across the life span." |

The On the Go program can serve as the vehicle by which your organization shows its commitment to increasing physical activity among the children and families in your community. The Athletic Training Education ProgramThe Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Florida provides the community and local school districts with student and certified athletic trainers (allied health care professionals known as ATC’s). Athletic Trainers enhance the quality of care of athletes and those who engage in physical activity. This includes prevention, assessment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.The Original Florida ProgramThe Original Florida Program is a tourism marketing program which operates under the auspices of the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council, headquartered in Gainesville. The Planning Council originally appointed representatives from each of the participating counties to oversee and direct the tourism promotion effort. |
Healthy Gators 2010Healthy Gators 2010 is a coalition of students, faculty and staff from many University of Florida departments and organizations working together to create a healthier campus. The coalition is dedicated to promoting a campus environment supportive of the development and maintenance of a healthy body, mind and spirit for all members of the University of Florida community. |

Exercise Therapy Program & Adapted PE ProgramThe Exercise Science Therapy Program officially began operation in September, 1982, as the Special Physical Education Laboratory. Since 1992, the lab has shared space with the University of Florida’s faculty and staff “Living Well” facility. The purpose of the Exercise Therapy Program is to help people improve their health and fitness levels through individualized programs of exercise, and therefore improve the quality of their lives. Participants include University of Florida faculty, staff, students and members of the local community with temporary or permanent injuries or disabilities. The program has expanded to multiple community sites based on the individuals interests and needs.

The Tourism Development CouncilThe Tourism Development Council guides decisions about tourism development in Alachua County and then advises the County Commission. The County Commission appoints nine board members (as per state statute) for Alachua County – three hoteliers, three elected officials and three citizens at large. Dr. Lori Pennington-Gray, an assistant professor in the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management serves on the board in a citizen at large capacity. Dr. Pennington-Gray has served on the board for four years and has recently been appointed for another four year term. |

Oak HammockOak Hammock at the University of Florida has contracted with the College of Health and Human Performance to provide consulting, programming, staff, and certain other services in the operation of Oak Hammock's Wellness Center. The mission behind this collaborative relationship is to promote better health among the Oak Hammock residents. |
